Create your own job!

Are you handy with tools, do you like to write, do you have good administrative skills?

If you answered yes to any of these, you've got the skills to create your own job. There are many people out there willing to pay someone to take care of work that they don't feel like doing. You'll have to do your own advertising, and supply your own tools, transportation, etc, but you can generate income from doing this. Some examples of a self-created summer job are:

  • Landscaping
  • Mowing yards
  • Start a moving service
  • Walking dogs
  • Cleaning homes or businesses
  • "Handy-man" Jobs
  • Displaying Advertising signs
  • Painting
  • Paperwork, writing, or filing jobs

And remember, these jobs typically won't "come to you". You've got to advertise yourself, and get out and find them. Things that can help you find work are:

  • Post fliers in grocery stores, libraries and local businesses
  • Network with friends, family and aquaintances.
    • Dont' be shy about letting everyone know you're looking for work. You never know who might know of a summer job opportunity for you.
  • For residential work, knock on doors.
  • Check local classified ads and job boards.
